Rachel Gringorten
Doctoral Audiology Student
Rachel grew up in San Jose, California. She majored in speech and hearing sciences at Arizona State University and is currently in her final year of Northwestern University's Doctor of Audiology program.
Rachel’s decision to work within hearing care stems from her grandfather’s experience with hearing loss. When she was in high school, her grandfather was diagnosed with a hearing loss and visited an audiologist to be fitted with hearing aids. Understanding his hearing loss and having the tools to address it made a huge difference in his ability to communicate with family and friends. Rachel wanted to be the person who helps people like her grandfather fully participate in and enjoy the activities that make them happy.
During her year as an extern, Rachel’s goal is to further develop the clinical and professional skills necessary to practice as a doctor of audiology. Her responsibilities range from administration (helping with daily setup and completing tasks that keep things running smoothly) to clinical work. She currently assists with diagnostic hearing evaluations and hearing aid fine-tuning and connectivity and will gain more independence as her clinical confidence and efficiency develop.
The hearing and the auditory systems fascinate Rachel, and she loves sharing her knowledge and passion with patients. She also loves getting to know the team and our patients, and she enjoys coming into the clinic each day to such a positive environment.
Outside of the clinic, Rachel enjoys playing the trumpet, which she has played since middle school. She also enjoys reading, drawing, and going on walks with her dog, Peaches.
