No one looks forward to the day that they need to wear hearing aids, but for many people managing a hearing loss, hearing aids are transformational. A common reason patients are hesitant about these devices is that they don’t want to be seen as a hearing aid wearer.

The good news is that hearing aid technology has come a long way over the years, and over-the-ear devices are no longer the only option. In-the-ear hearing aids are smaller and more discreet. If you’re looking for a completely invisible hearing aid—one that is truly out of sight, out of mind—the Lyric hearing aid might be for you. This micro hearing aid has become an increasingly popular option here at Pacific Hearing Service. Let’s explore how the Lyric hearing aid works and whether it’s the right fit for your hearing requirements.

What Are Lyric Hearing Aids?

Hearing aids come in two main styles: over-the-ear and in-the-ear. Within each of these styles, there’s a variety of options.

Over-the-ear hearing aids may have the traditional plastic piece that loops behind the ear, a smaller wire that ties behind your ear (receiver-in-canal), or a clear tube that goes behind your ear and connects to a larger piece (open fit). These are great options, especially for individuals with a more severe hearing loss.

However, in-the-ear hearing aids have grown in popularity. Micro implantable hearing aids, in-the-canal hearing aids, and in-the-ear hearing aids are all discreet options, but the Lyric hearing aid is unique.

The Lyric micro hearing aid eliminates the risks that come along with implantable hearing aids, it’s 100% invisible, and it rests snugly in the ear canal.

How Do Lyric Hearing Aids Work?

The Lyric device is truly a micro hearing aid. It’s even smaller than the tip of your finger! It is comfortably placed in the ear canal by your audiologist in a single office visit. No surgery or anesthesia is needed.

Lyric hearing aids can be removed via a magnet, but don’t worry if this sounds like a hassle. You won’t need to remove the device yourself, since it can be worn 24/7 and the battery is long-lasting. You can exercise, shower, and sleep in your Lyric hearing aids with no problems. It’s also safe to use your cellphone and over-the-ear headphones while wearing this micro hearing aid.

Since Lyric hearing aids sit inside your ear (around 4 millimeters deep), they use the natural anatomy of your ear to deliver sound. This results in reduced background noise and feedback as well as more natural sound quality. Lyric hearing aids do not distort your voice as heavily as over-the-ear hearing aids may.

Is the Lyric Hearing Aid Right for You?

While I hear nothing but rave reviews from patients who use Lyric hearing aids, they won’t work for everyone. Some people’s ear anatomy isn’t the right fit for Lyric hearing aids, and individuals with advanced hearing loss cases often need more comprehensive equipment like over-the-ear hearing aids.

If you’re struggling with a hearing loss, don’t delay in seeking treatment. If you think the Lyric hearing aid may be right for you, I encourage you to schedule a comprehensive hearing assessment. Our team will conduct a non-invasive hearing test and recommend the best treatment options for your individual hearing needs.
